Howdy Friends!

Thanks to those of you who've downloaded Jim Thompson's Horse from my upcoming album, Beat The Devil and Carry A Rail. The outpouring of emails, calls, and faxes has been truly overwhelming. You wouldn't believe how many unsolicited stories, photos, and poems I've received pertaining to horses, people named Jim, horses named Thompson, and also people named Thompson who named their horses Jim. Please stop. I want my life back.

That said, I'll be hitting the road in December! Yes, it's the most wonderful time of year, and you could theoretically make it more tolerable by coming out to hear me and my good friends play some non-holiday music on my album release tour! I'll be joined by a couple of my fellow Punch Brothers, Gabe Witcher on fiddle, and Chris Eldridge on guitar. Jesse Cobb (of the Infamous Stringdusters) will be playing mandolin, Aoife O'Donovan (of Crooked Still) will be a-singin', and Mark Schatz (credentials too long to list) will be playing bass. If you're wondering why we're calling the band “Noam Pikelny & Friends”, it's because, our first choice “The Noam Pikelny's Experience” is already in use by a popular dance band in Lithuania. Almost all of the tickets go on-sale today, so you better hurry! You can find all the tour dates on the Punch Brothers tour page and

We'll be announcing an exclusive pre-order for Beat The Devil and Carry A Rail, which will be out October 25th on Compass Records, very soon. The record features guest performances from Jerry Douglas, Aoife O'Donovan, Tim O'Brien, Steve Martin, Bryan Sutton, Chris Eldridge, Paul Kowert, and Chris Thile.  And it's Gabe Witcher first crack at producing. The opening track, "Jim Thompson's Horse” is still available for FREE at, in case you have multiple email addresses and would like to receive duplicates of future mailings, or if you have friends you'd like to send our way.

Yours Truly,
